Reminder: Community Service Opportunity-Toys for Tots

From 1 December through 24 December, all Young Marines can earn credit towards the community service requirement by helping the Toys for Tots program. The location is inside the Great Lakes Mall at the Sears entrance and runs from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Young Marines can work as many hours as they’d like (one hour would be a recommended minimum).

All Young Marines and their parents must read and agree to the policy below regarding this program before participating:

With safety being the utmost priority in our program, it is necessary to establish a policy that all Young Marines and Parents/Guardians must follow. Any violations of this policy will be reported to the Executive Officer and action will be taken based on severity. This may include suspension from the Young Marine Program.

Parents/Guardians: Please make sure there is a member of the Toys for Tots program there before you drop your child off. Unit staff will not be present during this event. Parents must stay at the mall while their Young Marine participates. This is a great opportunity for you to get your shopping done.

Young Marines: Courtesy, Respect and Discipline are paramount. You are performing a community service that is greatly appreciated by those whom are less fortunate. Maintain a good performance. It is up to you to make sure that you look good. This includes haircuts, clean uniforms, shined boots, etc. If your ribbons look worn out, don’t wear them. If you need to make a head call, you need to advise the Toys for Tots representative and you will go to the head that is closest to you. At no time will you be allowed to walk around the mall. This includes trips to and from the food court. This can be done before or after you are signed in or out. No Exceptions! And remember, keep track of your time because your participation counts as community service. There is a form in your guidebook under community service that you will need to have the Toys for Tots representative on duty sign to show proof that you were there. When accepting donations, make sure you are saying Thank You Sir/Ma’am. Have fun. Be safe and be a good representative to your Young Marines program and the Toys for Tots program.

Young Marines might consider calling a fellow Young Marine to work a shift with them.
