Parades/Color Guard
Parades
Parade participation is considered a community service and Young Marines earn service hours when they participate. Keep in mind when the staff selects Young Marines to attend certain unit trips, such as Parris Island and Washington, DC, individual participation in parades is taken into consideration.

Lake County Fair Parade
Every year, we participate in the Lake County Fair Parade. This parade has always been mandatory for all Young Marines (as a matter of fact, it's our ONLY mandatory parade). This year it is mandatory as well. Recruits are exempt from this event. It is Tuesday, August 16. Line up is at 1700 at the new Harvey High School in Painesville. The parade route goes from there, down Route 20 to Fairgrounds Road and ends inside the rear fairground's entrance off of Fairgrounds Road. Pick up will be at that location. Since we are one of the first groups at the beginning of the parade, we are finished before the parade ends. Plan to pick up your Young Marine at 1900 (please do not wait until the end of the parade). You might consider watching the parade closer to the end of the route; many parents find it helpful to watch the parade along Fairgrounds Road.
Marines need to be in uniform and squared away: Pressed uniforms, shined boots, covers, and proper haircuts. Young Marines receive 2 hours community service for this event and also get free admission to the fair after the parade.
Young Marines must contact Mr. Sickles by August 14 to let him know if you are NOT coming.
If anyone knows any other parade/color guard opportunities and would like to see our unit participate in them, please contact Mr. Sickles to see if they fit into our schedule.
