Community Service Opportunity: Headlands 4th of July Parade

Our unit will be participating in the Headland’s 4th of July parade.

We will meet on Forest Road just South of the intersection of Garden Lane at 11:00 am for line up. The parade route ends at the Headlands Community Center. THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL NEED TO PICK UP YOUR YOUNG MARINE. The parade is rather long and we are one of the first units in the parade and do NOT stay until the parade is over. Therefore, you will need to be at the community center no later than 1:00 pm to pick up your Young Marine.

Young Marines will need to bring their canteens. No water bottles as they are not part of the Young Marines uniform! The weather is typically very hot that day so it’s important that Young Marines are properly hydrated.

Note: Do NOT drop off your Young Marine at the parade line up location until you have checked in with a staff member.

Please email Mrs. Dubin by July 1 to let her know if you CAN NOT attend.

2 suggestions for parking to exit quickly from the Headlands:

1. This suggestion means that you will have to cross the parade route while the parade is going on. If you want to leave the Headlands quickly after the Young Marines are done marching, the suggestion is to park East of the IGA Store. Do not park in the IGA parking lot as a lot of people set up there for the parade and you might get stuck there until the end of the parade. You can park either at Sterling Morton Elementary (about 5 blocks from the end of the parade route) or one of the streets behind IGA. Get on Jordan Road, which is the road that runs in front of the Morton School and head east. Jordan ends at Headlands road turn right follow it until you get to your turn off.

2. You can park on the street behind the community center and drive out by going up Lake Overlook Drive, follow it all the way until it turns into Forest Road. Stay on Forest until you get to Woodridge. Turn left and follow Woodridge until you get to Corduroy Road and turn right. This will take you up to Lakeshore Boulevard.
